Music therapy

Music therapy is the use of interventions to accomplish individual goals within a therapeutic relationship by a professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. Music therapy is an allied health profession and one of the expressive therapies, consisting of a process in which a music therapist uses music and all of its facets—physical, emotional, mental, social, aesthetic, and spiritual—to help clients improve their health. Music therapists primarily help clients improve their health in several domains, such as cognitive functioning, motor skills, emotional development, social skills, and quality of life, by using music experiences such as free improvisation, singing, and listening to, discussing, and moving to music to achieve treatment goals. It has a wide qualitative and quantitative research literature base and incorporates clinical therapy, psychotherapy, biomusicology, musical acoustics, music theory, psychoacoustics, embodied music cognition, aesthetics of music, sensory integration, and comparative musicology. Referrals to music therapy services may be made by other health care professionals such as physicians, psychologists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. Clients can also choose to pursue music therapy services without a referral (i.e., self-referral).
Music therapists are found in nearly every area of the helping professions. Some commonly found practices include developmental work (communication, motor skills, etc.) with individuals with special needs, songwriting and listening in reminiscence/orientation work with the elderly, processing and relaxation work, and rhythmic entrainment for physical rehabilitation in stroke victims. Music therapy is also used in some medical hospitals, cancer centers, schools, alcohol and drug recovery programs, psychiatric hospitals, and correctional facilities.

History
Music has been used as a healing force for centuries.Apollo is the ancient Greek god of music and of medicine. Aesculapius was said to cure diseases of the mind by using song and music, and music therapy was used in Egyptian temples. Plato said that music affected the emotions and could influence the character of an individual. Aristotle taught that music affects the soul and described music as a force that purified the emotions. Aulus Cornelius Celsus advocated the sound of cymbals and running water for the treatment of mental disorders. Music therapy was practiced in biblical times, when David played the harp to rid King Saul of a bad spirit. As early as 400 B.C., Hippocrates played music for mental patients. In the thirteenth century, Arab hospitals contained music-rooms for the benefit of the patients. In the United States, Native American medicine men often employed chants and dances as a method of healing patients. The Turco-Persian psychologist and music theorist al-Farabi (872–950), known as Alpharabius in Europe, dealt with music therapy in his treatise Meanings of the Intellect, in which he discussed the therapeutic effects of music on the soul.Robert Burton wrote in the 17th century in his classic work, The Anatomy of Melancholy, that music and dance were critical in treating mental illness, especially melancholia. Music therapy as we know it began in the aftermath of World Wars I and II, when, particularly in the United Kingdom, musicians would travel to hospitals and play music for soldiers suffering from war-related emotional and physical trauma.

Decision

                                          Decision...
Umm...should i do it or should not do it ?
Tired of making a decision? Some of the decision  may benefits you but some may hurt your friends. Sometimes you may find out it is hard to make a decision. Now days many people make wrong decision because they did not think what is the consequence . Of course every decision have negative and positive result. So make sure think first...

Though you may rely on the advice and guidance of a good friend, parent, spouse, or spiritual mentor, in the end it is you and you alone who is responsible for overcoming fear and making your final decisions. For those who may experience a lack of confidence in their ability to make favorable decisions or would like to learn different ways to rely on their own inner guidance.

Here are some guidance that might help you if you found it difficult to make a decision :

1.Collect and summarise the data systematically.

Decisions can't be made in a vacuum! Gather, collate, classify and organise the information you need to make a decision. You need to analyse and evaluate all the important factors in making the decision. Analyse the various factors involved in the problem and identify the key ones.
Highlight any critical factors upon which the success on the decision will hinge.
Sound out the views and opinions of others: they may see something you have missed.

2. List out our own opinion
At first sight, it may appear that there is only one course of action, but that is usually not true. Even if your situation seems limited, try to make a list of alternatives. Refrain from evaluating at this point; brainstorm and write down every idea that comes to mind, as crazy as it may seem. You can always cross it off the list later, but with those crazy ideas might come some creative solutions that you might not have considered otherwise. Then ask other people for suggestions. Be terse and ask them what they might do in your situation. Sometimes strangers can offer the most creative ideas because they do not share your assumptions or biases.

3. Seeking for opinion
Opinion from your family , friends or counsellor may come in handy. Since we are still young and lack of experience we should talk to our family member to get more opinion this method also make you and your family more closer. Next why don we ask our friend to give some opinion? Their opinion will be different because they have their own opinion, their thinking and ours is different. In addition you also can seek counsellor.  Not necessary to seek other counsellor you can seek from your school counsellor it is free and don be shy . They are always welcome you and ready to lend a hand to you. Don let shy defeat you if you want to success.

4. Identify your objective.
The first thing you need to decide when looking for answers is what your true objective really is. What do you actually want to know? If we don’t know exactly what we’re trying to accomplish, things can get confusing really fast. So spend some time getting a clear idea of what your objective is before you go any further.

5. Make the decision concrete.
You can endlessly re-analyze and agonize over what you’ve decided. You have to stop sometime. Make it real, write it down. Once your decision is out of your head and in the real world, your brain can stop constantly churning through the options and get on with the next task

6.Consider overarching moral principles. When encountering a situation in which there is a conflict between standards or principles, one useful strategy is to consider overarching moral principles.Overarching moral principles, which are the underlying foundation principles upon which all other standards are based, include autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, justice, fidelity, and veracity. In plain English, each principle is described below.
Autonomy refers to the right of self-determination as evidenced by the freedom of an individual to make one’s own decisions and choose one’s own direction.
Beneficence refers to promoting good for others, contributing to the welfare of others, and protecting the best interests of others.
Nonmalficence refers to avoiding doing harm to others and refraining from actions that risk hurting others.
Justice refers to providing fairness to all people, regardless of age, race, gender, ethnicity, religion, national origin, or sexual orientation.
Fidelity refers to keeping one’s promises, fulfilling honoring one’s commitments, and being faithful to one’s responsibilities of trust in a relationship.
Veracity refers to being honest, truthful, and trustworthy. Trust is required to build a relationship, and honesty is required to build trust.

Above are some steps as a guide for you all the decide your problems. Just remember think twice and look before you step.

Hope you all will success in future.
;) bye

Raya.

Assalamualaikum..

Haaa..  macam mana cuti raya tahun ini?

Seronok tak?
Hurm,pasti meriahkan?

Terima kasih.
Bye!.
